More and more traditional television outlets are turning to their Web presence to increase audience share and boost revenues. As a result, tracking usership of those sites is becoming a larger part of evaluating how well a station is performing in its market and beyond.
Hitwise assembles data by sampling the daily interaction between 10 million U.S. Internet users and more than one million unique Web sites, organizing those sites into industries based on subject matter and content.
Here’s their list of the top TV Web sites, with the number indicating percentage of market share:
1. The Weather Channel — 8.06
2. CNN.com — 7.02
3. MSNBC — 6.62
4. ESPN — 4.91
5. Fox News — 3.75
6. QVC.com — 2.32
7. Food Network — 2.15
8. CartoonNetwork.com — 1.85
9. Fox Sports on MSN — 1.78
10. DIRECTV.com — 1.64
