Top NFL Draft Steals
September 29, 2008
Trades are rare and free agency can be iffy. The foundation of just about any successful NFL franchise is built through the draft. Fortunes rise and fall in the blink of an eye, based on chances taken and opportunities missed.
No one, of course, can put together a serious contender simply by hitting on that No. 1 pick. It’s the third and fifth and seventh-round surprises that can turn a .500 team into a Super Bowl winner.
NFL.com pored over the annals of drafts past to come up with the steals that made all the difference for their respective teams.
Here are the Top 10:
– Tom Brady, New England, Round 6 (2000)
– Joe Montana, San Francisco, Round 3 (1979)
– Terrell Davis, Denver, Round 6 (1995)
– Deacon Jones, LA Rams, Round 14 (1961)
– Dan Marino, Miami, Round 1, 27th overall (1983)
– Bo Jackson, LA Raiders, Round 7 (1987)
– Shannon Sharpe, Denver, Round 7 (1990)
– Ray Guy, Oakland, Round 1 (1973)
– Larry Wilson, St. Louis Cardinals, Round 7 (1960)
– Roger Staubach, Dallas, Round 10 (1964)
