Women’s French Open Winners

Justine Henin may be gone, but she is hardly forgotten.

When Ana Ivanovic took to the clay for the French Open final, the recently retired Henin was on hand to watch. Henin, who routed Ivanovic in the 2007 final, may not have been an inspiration, but she clearly wasn’t a distraction, either as Ivanovic rolled over 13th-seeded Dinara Safina of Russia, 6-4, 6-3, to claim the 2008 title.

Ivanovic has a long way to go to make the Roland Garros fans forget about Henin, who captured four French titles since 2000, including each of her last three appearances.

Here’s the list of most recent winners:

2008 — Ana Ivanovic, Serbia

2007 — Justine Henin-Hardenne, Belgium

2006 – Justine Henin-Hardenne, Belgium

2005 — Justine Henin-Hardenne, Belgium

2004 — Anastasia Myskina, Russia

2003 — Justine Henin-Hardenne, Belgium

2002 — Serena WIlliams, USA

2001 — Jennifer Capriati, USA

2000 — Mary Pierce, France
