U.S. Open Women’s Tennis Champions
September 8, 2008
While Roger Federer was running off four straight titles on the men’s side, the women’s competition at the U.S. Open tennis tournament has been decidedly more balanced. The 2004-07 events produced four different winners, and Justine Henin’s retirement assured there would be no repeat in 2008.
Instead, Serena Williams emerged from the pack, coming away with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Jelena Jankovic to take her third U.S. Open title and reclaim the No. 1 ranking in the world in the process.
