Hollywood may be the center of the film industry, but plenty of movies are made outside the highly competitive confines of Tinseltown. Texas, in fact, has a long and noteworthy history of getting into the act, and the Dallas area has played a part in some memorable efforts over the years.

Here’s a partial list of films made in and around the Dallas-Fort Worth area, with year of release:

State Fair (1945)

Bonnie and Clyde (1967)

Benji (1974)

Debbie Does Dallas (1978)

Silkwood (1983)

Tender Mercies (1983)

Places in the Heart (1984)

The Trip to Bountiful (1985)

Robocop (1987)

Talk Radio (1988)

Born on the Fourth of July (1989)

JFK (1991)

The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998)

Boys Don’t Cry (1999)

Office Space (1999)

The Rookie (2002)
