What’s a Disney movie without a dog? The recent release of Beverly Hills Chihuahua simply adds to the list of the studio’s releases with strong canine themes. Going to the dogs has been a Disney tradition for more than 70 years.

USA Today decided to identify the best of the best. In conjunction with noted film critic Leonard Maltin, the newspaper came up with its list of the top dogs in Disney annals.

Here are the last eight, in reverse order:

10. Shadow and Chance in Homeward Bound (1993)

  9. Nana in Peter Pan (1953)

  8. Frankenweenie (1984)

  7. Slinky Dog in Toy Story (1995)

  6. Chiffon in The Shaggy Dog (1959)

  5. Perdita and Pongo in 101 Dalmatians (1961)

  4. Old Yeller (1957)

  3. Lady and the Tramp (1955)

To see the top two, read about all of them, find out who didn’t quite make the cut and see a slideshow, visit USA Today.
