Stars who fell in love making movies
April 1, 2009
Clint Eastwood + Sondra Locke, Clint Eastwood + Jean Seberg. Eastwood and Locke first met during 1977’s The Gauntlet and stayed together through four more movies. After their bust-up, people stopped returning her phonecalls, and she penned an autobiography called The Good, the Bad and the Very Ugly. Go figure. Eastwood and the tragic Seberg had a fling during the filming of 1969’s Paint Your Wagon. The 1995 documentary From the Journals of Jean Seberg painted Eastwood as less than a sterling character.
Susan Sarandon + Tim Robbins. At the end of 1988’s Bull Durham, Sarandon winds up with Kevin Costner. Behind the scenes, she wound up with Robbins. Costner has gained a reputation for having a very secure male ego. Can’t help wondering if he was surprised at Susan’s preference. But Sarandon always speaks warmly of Costner’s willingness to share the spotlight with her and Robbins while filming the baseball comedy.
Steve McQueen + Ali MacGraw. Producer Robert Evans encouraged wife MacGraw to star opposite McQueen in 1972’s The Getaway even though she didn’t really want to do it. He felt they would have good onscreen chemistry and didn’t realize their off-screen chemistry would be twice as potent.
The list could go on and on and on. But we’ll save left-overs for a more appropriate occasion. How about Valentine’s Day 2010?
