New York Giants Championship Games

Bill Sullivan
August 28, 2008

While the 2007 Giants left smiles on millions of Metropolitan area football fans’ faces, the G-Men are hardly strangers to the championship stage. Unfortunately, much of that history is a good deal less satisfying than that upset of the mighty Patriots.

Overall, the Giants are 7-12 in games that decided the National Football League’s championship. That record includes a deflating five consecutive title game losses between 1958 and ‘63.

Here’s a look at title-game seasons past:

*1927 — Giants 13, Bears 7

1933 — Bears 23, Giants 21

1934 — Giants 30, Bears 13

1935 — Lions 26, Giants 7

1938 — Giants 23, Packers 17

1939 — Packers 27, Giants 0

1941 — Bears 37, Giants 9

1944 — Packers 14, Giants 7

1946 — Bears 24, Giants 14

1956 — Giants 47, Bears 7

1958 — Colts 23, Giants 17 (OT)

1959 — Colts 31, Giants 16

1961 — Packers 37, Giants 0

1962 — Packers 16, Giants 7

1963 — Bears 14, Giants 10

1986 — Giants 39, Broncos 20

1990 — Giants 20, Bills 19

2000 — Ravens 34, Giants 7

2007 — Giants 17, Patriots 14

*Game decided the title. There was no formal championship game.
