August 26, 2008

Soccer may be something of an afterthought in the United States, but it’s more than just a passion overseas: It’s big business, too.

Of the Forbes list of the world’s most valuable soccer teams, four are believed to be worth $1 billion or more.

Here’s the Top 5, with nation and most recent valuation:

1. Manchester United (England): $1.8 billion

2. Real Madrid (Spain): $1.3 billion

3. Arsenal (England): $1.2 billion

4. Liverpool (England): $1.0 billion

5. Bayern Munich (Germany): $917 million
