Best Clint Eastwood films

Bill Sullivan
February 6, 2009

Clint Eastwood has come a long way from Rowdy (on the TV series Rawhide) to spaghetti Westerns and Dirty Harry, all part of the process that eventually molded one of Hollywood’s most respected actors and directors.

While his latest success, Gran Torino, got the cold shoulder from the Academy Award voters, it did better box office than most of the films that made the cut. It also served notice that the 78-year-old is still at least close to the peak of his creative powers.

Which are his best films? There are plenty to choose from, but here’s our list:

Changeling (2008): Director

Letters from Iwo Jima (2006): Director

Flags of Our Fathers (2006): Director

Million Dollar Baby (2004): Actor/Director

Mystic River (2003): Director

The Bridges of Madison County (1995): Actor/Director

Unforgiven (1992): Actor/Director

Bird (1988): Director

Escape from Alcatraz (1979): Actor

The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976): Actor/Director
