Bill Sullivan

The University of Michigan has racked up the most victories in NCAA football history, coming out on the positive side of the score 872 times in 129-plus years of competition. The catch: The Wolverines have a natural advantage, having fielded teams for nine more seasons than Notre Dame and 13 more than Texas.

Here’s a list of the five winningest programs of all time, through games of Jan. 5, 2009:

1. Michigan: 872

2. Texas: 832

3. Notre Dame: 831

4. Nebraska: 817

5. Ohio State: 807
