U.S. Olympic Taekwondo Team
June 6, 2008
They’re dubbed the “first family of taekwondo”: three siblings make up the majority of the four-member U.S. Olympic taekwondo team competing in Beijing, and a fourth, Jean, is a head coach. They made history when all four won world championship titles in 2005. They are the first family to have three siblings compete in the Olympics since 1904. Steven was the first person to win Olympic gold when the sport was made a part of the Olympics in 2000, and he won gold again in 2004.
Steven Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) – welterweight
Diana Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) – featherweight
Mark Lopez (Sugar Land, Texas) – featherweight
Charlotte Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) – flyweight
Jean Lopez shares coaching duties with Juan Moreno of Miami.
