Top albums of 2008

What kind of year was 2008 for the music business? To some extent, that probably depends on your own taste and favored genre. “Top 10″ and “Best of” lists have an annoying tendency to please no one and irritate almost everyone who pauses to take a look.

When Time magazine set out to name its top albums of 2008, the editors found plenty of candidates. Their final list reflects a wide range of styles and talents. Even so, don’t be surprised if you come away wondering, “Hey, what about…?”

Here goes:

1. Tha Carter III, Lil Wayne

2. Dear Science, TV on the Radio

3. Death Magnetic, Metallica

4. Feed the Animals, Girl Talk

5. Vampire Weekend, Vampire Weekend

6. 808s & Heartbreak, Kanye West

7. Santogold, Santogold

8. Third, Portishead

9. Little Honey, Lucinda Williams

10. Rockferry, Duffy
