Top Train Trips

While cross-country train travel is mostly a thing of the past in the United States, many an international traveler has enjoyed seeing a country’s sights from a more down-to-Earth level.

Trains can get you there, and let you take in a little of the local color and scenery while you’re at it. (Hard to do much of that from 30,000 feet.)

Sherman’s Travel has put together a list of its Top 10 Train Trips. You’ll have to make a bit of an effort to get there, since California’s Napa Valley Wine Train is the only U.S. locomotive experience to make the list.

Where else can you reconnect with a more romantic form of travel?

Here’s the list:

1. The Bergen Line, Norway

2. The Blue Train, South Africa

3. Denali Star Train, Alaska

4. Eastern & Orient Express, Southeast Asia

5. The Ghan, Australia

6. The Golden Eagle Trans-Siberian Express, Russia

7. Hiram Bingham Train, Peru

8. Napa Valley Wine Train, California

9. TER Mediterranee, France

10. Tokaido Shinkansen, Japan

What’s so great about all these? Visit Sherman’s Travel for the details.
