Best Pixar movies

With the release of Up, Pixar Studios (now Disney-Pixar) hopes to add to an impressive list of animated successes, beginning with Toy Story in 1995 and most recently including last year’s critically-acclaimed WALL-E.

Up is the story of 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen, who ties thousands of balloons to his home and sets out to visit South America. Expecting to make the trek alone, he is surprised to learn that he has been joined by a stowaway who happens to be 70 years younger.

What’s a Disney movie without a dog? The recent release of Beverly Hills Chihuahua simply adds to the list of the studio’s titles with strong canine themes. Going to the dogs has been a Disney tradition for more than 70 years.

USA Today decided to identify the best of the best. In conjunction with noted film critic Leonard Maltin, the newspaper came up with its list of the top dogs in Disney annals.

Here are the last eight, in reverse order:

10. Shadow and Chance in Homeward Bound (1993)

9. Nana in Peter Pan (1953)

8. Frankenweenie (1984)

7. Slinky Dog in Toy Story (1995)

6. Chiffon in The Shaggy Dog (1959)

5. Perdita and Pongo in 101 Dalmatians (1961)

4. Old Yeller (1957)

3. Lady and the Tramp (1955)

Moviemaking has come a long way since the days when Godzilla was some guy in a rubber suit and Yoda was a puppet. Over the past 20 years or so, computer generated images have lent a more lifelike quality to even the most bizarre and unlikely of on-screen characters.

The folks at Entertainment Weekly have noticed. In honor of this budding genre, they put together their list of “Favorite CG Characters.”

Here’s what they came up with:

In honor of turning 25, Entertainment Weekly set out to establish lists covering the top movies, TV shows, albums, etc., of the last quarter century.

Part of the project: Name the 100 best films produced between 1983 and 2008.

Let the complaining and second-guessing begin. Here’s the Top 10:

Top animated movies ever

The best animated films find a way to make the audience care about people who aren’t people.

Sometimes they’re animals. Now and then, they’re toys. Ogres, superheroes and mermaids have managed to light up the big screen as well.

Moviefone set out to compile its “Best Animated Movies of All Time.” They came up with 25 in all, but here are the Top 10:
