Texas (6): 1949, 1950, 1975, 1983, 2002, 2005

Arizona State (5): 1965, 1967, 1969, 1977, 1981

Combining football, basketball and baseball leaves Texas No. 1

College sports fans can easily keep up with who’s No. 1 (or close, at least) in their favorite sport. But which NCAA programs do the best job overall in terms of keeping the customers satisfied?

Get your Horns up, Texas. Your Longhorns are No. 1.

Of course, all of this depends on how you base the rankings. In this case, Rivals.com used results in football, men’s basketball and baseball.

The survey began with just football and baseball. Through those two seasons, Oklahoma ranked No. 1 overall. But Texas’ four baseball national championships (1975, ‘83, 2002 and ‘05) skewed the numbers the Longhorns’ way after a third sport was added to the mix.

Data was analyzed back to the 1974-75 school year, which was the first in which more than one team from a conference could receive a bid to the NCAA basketball tournament. Texas also ranked No. 1 when schools were rated in the BCS era, which dates back to 1998.

You can read more about the methodology and how points were allocated in the different sports by visiting the Rivals site. If you just want to see who made the Top 10, here you go:

1. Texas (212.5)

2. Florida State (200)

3. Oklahoma (184)

4. LSU (178)

5 North Carolina (172.5)

6. Michigan (170.5)

7. USC (168)

8. Florida (164)

9. Alabama (146)

10 UCLA (138.5)
