According to the results of a nationwide Harris Poll of 2,602 U.S. adults, 53 percent of those surveyed said they have taken steps to green their life. The survey was done online between May 5 and 12, 2008 by Harris Interactive with input from The Nature Conservancy. Of those who are making changes to live a greener lifestyle, the most popular actions include:

• Recycling (91 percent)
• Paying bills online (73 percent)
• Trying to buy locally-produced food and/or goods (49 percent)
• Buying green household products (47 percent)
• Bringing their own reusable bags to stores instead of using paper or plastic (39 percent)
• Carpooling (16 percent)
• Driving less by combining errands, walking more, etc. (5 percent)
• Reduced their utility use (4 percent)
• Purchased hybrid cars (3 percent)
• Changed out incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent ones (3 percent)
