That work stoppage, as you may recall, worked out pretty well for the owners. They ended up with most of the concessions, including reduced payrolls, a tighter salary cap, and relatively fixed costs.

The players? Most of them simply got a year older.

So who’s the richest of the rich in the “new” NHL?

For the second straight year, the Toronto Maple Leafs enjoy that distinction. One of the league’s Original Six, the Leafs carry a value estimated at $448 million — chump change for an NFL franchise, but pretty good money where we come from.
