The august body included singers themselves (Bono, Bruce Springsteen and more), industry executives and media who work in the music business.

Each was asked to list 20 names. An accounting firm tabulated the results and came up with a list of 100.

Here are the Top 10:

 1. Aretha Franklin

 5. John Lennon

 6. Marvin Gaye

 7. Bob Dylan

 8. Otis Redding

 9. Stevie Wonder

10. James Brown

In 1969, Hayes, known more for the theme from Shaft, made what would become a classic R&B cover of Glenn Campbell’s country ballad, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.” Hayes’ remake came in at a little over 18 minutes. Incidentally, Hayes also wrote “Soul Man,” the Sam and Dave hit that was covered by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as the Blues Brothers.

Unfortunately, Hayes’ cover of the Campbell hit didn’t make the DigitalDreamDoor.com top ten, but here are the tunes that did. The complete list is at Digitaldreamdoor.com, a music and movies site based in Boca Raton, Fla.

Musical tastes may offer insights to candidates' personalities

Musical tastes say something about all of us…even those who happen to be running for president.

Blender approached both Republican nominee John McCain and Democratic hopeful Barack Obama about sharing their Top 10 favorite songs. The responses were enlightening, to say the least.

Here’s what Obama had to offer:

1. Ready or Not, Fugees

2. What’s Going On, Marvin Gaye

3. I’m On Fire, Bruce Springsteen

4. Gimme Shelter, Rolling Stones

5. Sinnerman, Nina Simone

6. Touch the Sky, Kanye West

7. You’d Be So Easy To Love, Frank Sinatra

8. Think, Aretha Franklin

9. City of Blinding Lights, U2

10. Yes We Can, will.i.am

To see McCain’s list, to access videos of each candidate’s selections, and to find out what Girl Talk and Randy Newman had to say about the selections, visit Blender.
