Scariest U.S. drives

Sure, navigating the freeway on the way to work in the morning can be scary enough, but some drives are frightening even without wall-to-wall traffic and drivers who think they’re in a NASCAR race. Mountain passes and two-lane coastline roads may be big on scenery, but  be careful not to take your eye off the pavement for very long.

Recently, Forbes Traveler compiled a list of “America’s Scariest Drives.” Check ‘em out:

Highway 1, Big Sur (California)

The Saddle Road, Big Island (Hawaii)

Aspen to Leadville via Independence Pass (Colorado)

Dalton Highway (Alaska)

U.S. Highway 50 (Utah/Nevada)

Tail of the Dragon (North Carolina/Tennessee)

State Highway 170 (Texas)

State Route 16 (West Virginia)

Beartooth Highway (Wyoming/Montana)

Moki Dugway (Utah)

Interstate 15 (California/Nevada)

To read all about what makes these stretches of road so challenging, and to take in a slideshow, visit Forbes Traveler.
