Most Sweet 16 appearances

It takes six victories over three weekends to win the NCAA Tournament, and getting to that second weekend can be the toughest task of all. Round 1 often is for Cinderellas, but as the field gets tougher, winning a second time is a different matter entirely.

No great surprise, then, that the list of schools with the most Sweet 16 appearances is chock full of college basketball’s most fabled institutions.

Who’s on top?

Here goes:
22 — North Carolina (1975-2008)
20 — Kentucky (1975-2005)
19 — Duke (1978-2006)
17 — UCLA (1975-2008)
16 — Kansas ( 1981-2008)
16 — Louisville (1975-2008)
