When putting together a vacation, most of us have to skimp on something. Often as not, it’s the accomodations.

Why pay big bucks when a moderately-priced hotel will do? You’re just going there to sleep, right?

For the better-heeled among us, however, staying at the best place in town isn’t just expected, it’s essential. That’s why Forbes Traveler put together a panel of seasoned (and well-to-do) globetrotters to help assemble a list of the world’s 400 Best Hotels.

The top properties are ranked alphabetically, but here’s a quick sampling:

Adare Manor, Co. Limerick, Ireland

Alvear Palace Hotel, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Amanbagh, Ajabgarh, Rajasthan, India

Amandari, Bali, Indonesia

Amanjena, Marrakech, Morocco

Amanpuri, Phuket, Thailand

Amansara, Siem Reap, Cambodia

Amanusa, Bali, Indonesia

Amanyara, Turks & Caicos

The American Club, Kohler, Wisc.

Only 390 to go! To check out the rest, and to see a slideshow and get details on all of these properties, visit Forbes Traveler.
