Best Bridges of the New Millennium

Some of us just love the thrill of driving over a man-made span of metal and concrete, with nothing but water below and sky overhead. Then again, some of us tend to hyperventilate and prefer to look straight ahead and pretend that that’s not water below the structure below the road below the wheels –– well, you follow.

Budget Travel magazine recommends a dozen bridges that are worth a detour. And these structures are such marvels that even the bridge-phobics will be curious enough to drive or walk over them.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge (pictured), Gateshead and Newcastle, England (2001)

Rolling Bridge, London (2004)
