PETA’s Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks
June 18, 2008
People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA) steps up to the plate by ranking Major League Baseball parks that offer vegetarian fare for the non-carnivores in their friendly confines. Ballpark staples like peanuts, Cracker Jack and popcorn aren’t all they offer; veggie burgers, wraps and even regional vegetarian foods show up on the menus. By PETA’s reckoning, more than two-thirds of MLB stadiums offer a veggie dog or burger.
Here’s the list with some of the veggie dishes:
- Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia Phillies; above): Mock-steak Philly sandwiches
- AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants): Portobello mushroom sandwiches, veggie sushi, grilled veggie kebabs and fruit salad
- Safeco Field (Seattle Mariners): Baked potatoes, PB&J, salads, fried mushrooms and edamame
- PETCO Park (San Diego Padres): Vegetarian burritos, gourmet salads and roasted corn
- Busch Stadium (St. Louis Cardinals): Vegetable stir-fry, tomato-basil bruschetta, olive tapenade, hummus and Thai veggie wraps
- Coors Field (Colorado Rockies): Veggie panini and fire-roasted vegetable soup
- Rogers Centre (Toronto Blue Jays): Veggie subs and Chinese noodle vegetable stir-fry
- Dolphin Stadium (Florida Marlins): Veggie platters, spicy peanut noodles and mushroom fried rice
- McAfee Coliseum (Oakland Athletics): Veggie dogs, burgers and chili
- TIE: Minute Maid Park (Houston Astros) and Chase Field (Arizona Diamondbacks): Vegetarian burritos and salads (both), veggie wraps (Minute Maid) and veggie subs (Chase)
