Top baby names of 2008

Ava and Aiden secured the number one slots in BabyNames.com’s Top 10 Baby Names of 2008 list. The web site compiles its most popular names from members’ favorite name lists. The BabyNames.com top name list often predicts future birth name trends, since its members are either pregnant or planning on a family in the near future.
On the boys’ side, biblical names seem to be making a comeback. While Aiden, Braden and Kaden still made the top 10, they no longer dominate the top three spots, indicating that the “-aden” phase is waning and being replaced by a resurgence in biblical names like Ethan (#2), Noah (#3), Caleb (#5) and Jacob (#7). “L” names Landon, Liam and Lucas round out the top ten, suggesting a new “L” trend emerging for boys. Logan, Luke and Levi were also in the top 100 names.
On the girls’ side, conservative, traditional names are gaining momentum. The name Isabella rose from #5 to #2, which BabyNames.com founder Jennifer Moss attributes to the popularity of the Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer.
“Twilight’s heroine is named Isabella Swan, but she goes by Bella,” says Moss. “Both Isabella and Bella rose significantly on the girls’ chart, which shows that beloved characters can have just as much an influence on baby names as celebrities.”
Ava, Madeline, Emma and Abigail round out the top five girls’ names.
