America’s best zoos

Bill Sullivan
May 11, 2009

Zoos used to have a negative connotation in America. Sure, it was nice and educational to see animals from around the world, but too often the treatment of the creatures in question was subpar, even cruel.

New standards have made the zoo experience more palatable for all concerned. Modern zoos strive to present the stars of the show in more natural and comfortable surroundings. Cageless zoos present opportunities to experience animals in a more intimate way.

Who is doing the best job overall? Forbes Traveler has done the legwork for you and has its list of America’s Best Zoos.
