Multiple Award Winners
June 4, 2008
There are so many college football awards these days that even the most dedicated of fans can be hard-pressed to keep up with who got what… and why.
Sure, you know the Heisman supposedly honors the season’s best player. But what do you do to earn the Hendricks (defensive end), the Nagurski (top defender), the Unitas (senior QB) or the Bednarik (best defensive player)?
It’s a jungle out there in honors land, and sometimes you can’t tell the awards without a scorecard. To sort out who are truly the best of the best, here’s a suggestion: Check out that winners list and see whose name comes up more than once.
Last year’s multiple award winners included:
Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU (4): Lombardi (lineman/linebacker), Lott (Defensive Player of the Year), Nagurski, Outland (interior lineman).
Tim Tebow, QB, Florida (3): Heisman, Maxwell (Player of the Year), O’Brien (Top QB).
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas (2): Walter Camp (Player of the Year), Doak Walker (RB).
