NBA’s Richest Teams
June 3, 2008
How can one of the worst teams on the planet be the most valuable franchise in the NBA?
Location, location, location.
According to Forbes, none other than the bottom-feeding New York Knickerbockers are the league’s greatest cash cow, with the franchise valued at $608 million. Wretched management, poor on-court results, and the odd sexual harassment suit couldn’t keep the Knicks from drowning in cash.
Who else is bucking the notion that the NBA is a dying league? Some of the winners and losers might surprise you.
Here’s the rest of the Top 10:
2. Los Angeles Lakers — $560 million
3. Chicago Bulls — $500 million
4. Detroit Pistons – $477 million
5. Houston Rockets — $462 million
6. Dallas Mavericks — $461 million
7. Cleveland Cavaliers -$455 million
8. Phoenix Suns — $449 million
9. Miami Heat — $418 million
10. San Antonio Spurs — $405 million
Bringing up the rear? Ranked 30th, and last, were the Portland Trail Blazers at $253 million.
