Dragnet (1987)
Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks take over the beat from the deadly-serious Jack Webb and the almost-as-deadly-serious Harry Morgan in this spin on the long-running TV series. Aykroyd channels Webb’s mannerisms (or lack of same), while the youthful Hanks provides a lighter counterpoint as his less reverent sidekick. The plot is forgetable, but the two stars carry the day in an effort that’s better than most of its kind.
