Male BFFs in the movies

Clark Gable + Spencer Tracy. Gable and Tracy starred in a trio of hits — 1936’s San Francisco, 1938’s Test Pilot, 1940’s Boom Town. Each role reflected the actors’ screen images. Gable was brash and rash; Tracy was thoughtful and cautious. A sense of friendly camaraderie was obvious onscreen and off. During their scenes together, when the camera moved in for a dramatic close-up of Gable, Tracy would try distracting the actor with weird body contortions. Just like the friend who tried to make you crack up when you were standing in front of your 8th-grade class giving a book report.
