Most popular baby names
December 17, 2008
When our son was born almost 17 years ago, my wife and I decided to name him after the city where we met. (It wasn’t like we met in Hackensack, after all.)
We figured it would be at least a little unique, but not too out there. Either way, he’d know who it was when we called for him at a school gathering or ballgame.
Much to our surprise, it was a big year for Austins. In one kid baseball game he played in, there were actually three of them.
According to BabyCenter’s list of the most popular baby names of 2008, we were on to something. Austin remains a very respectable No. 50 on the top 100 names for boys — still on the radar screen, but not quite the name of the year.
What monikers appeared on the most birth certificates this year?
Here are the top five for boys and girls:
Girls
1. Emma
2. Sophia
3. Madison
4. Isabella
5. Olivia
Boys
1. Aiden
2. Jayden
3. Ethan
4. Jacob
5. Caden
