Best Simpsons guest voices

November 6, 2008

It’s hard to be a live guest on an animated TV series, but that hasn’t stopped the producers of The Simpsons from attracting an interesting collection of drop-in stars over the years.

Some of those appearances were memorable, others have faded into obscurity, but almost all seem worthy of a second look.

Entertainment Weekly compiled a list of “16 Great Simpsons Guest Voices.” Here are 10 of those, and the character they played:

Alec Baldwin: Marine biologist Dr. Caleb Thorn

Jack Black: Milo, comic book store owner

Glenn Close: Mother Simpson

Dustin Hoffman: Mr. Bergstrom, substitute teacher

Beverly D’Angelo: Country singer Lurlene Lumpkin

Harvey Fierstein: Karl, Homer’s assistant

Sara Gilbert: Laura Powers, Bart’s crush

Winona Ryder: Alison Taylor, Lisa’s rival

Mandy Patinkin: Hugh St. John Alastair Parkerfield, Lisa’s future fiance’.

Michelle Pfeiffer: Mindy Simmons, Homer’s female co-worker.
