With another college football season coming up fast, the drumbeat will begin again.

Who is the best of the best? Which player will end the season with a trip to New York to pick up the latest replica of that famous fellow flashing the stiffarm?

Already, public relations directors at all the usual suspects are cranking out mailers to remind the media that there are plenty of  good alternatives. Last year’s winner, Florida’s Tim Tebow, is eligible again.

Not coincidentally, the schools with the most Heisman Trophy winners are also among college football’s most storied institutions. Success attracts talent, and more talent tends to bring more success.
