Best Road Movies

John DeFore
August 11, 2008

The British Film Institute, in what one hopes will be a long-lived series, has been releasing tidy little paperbacks for film buffs that run down, for instance, 100 Westerns or 100 European Horror Films.

All good fodder for a site called GetListy, but particularly fun is the recent 100 Road Movies, which not only supplies smart two-page (or so) introductions to each film but gathers plenty of oddballs from around the world that won’t spring to readers’ minds as readily as, say, Cannonball Run.

Skimming through author Jason Wood’s choices, I’d like to nominate…

Ten Trips on the “100 Road Movies” Worth Taking Twice:

Broken Flowers
The Hit
Leningrad Cowboys Go America
Paper Moon
Raising Arizona

Simple Men
Sullivan’s Travels
Thunder Road
Two-Lane Blacktop
Y Tu Mamá También
