Best Movie Posters

Bill Sullivan
August 15, 2008

Album covers may be a thing of the past. (If you have to ask what an album is…ah, never mind.)

The movie poster, however, remains very much a part of the industry’s culture. It’s that little bit of eye candy that just might entice you to make a last-second switch as you stand in that box office line.

Try as the studios might, most of that artwork doesn’t make a real connection with the moviegoing public. Now and then, however, the poster becomes Almost as Famous as the film.

Entertainment Weekly recently took a stab at identifying the Top 25 movies posters of the last 25 years. Check out the first 10, and see if they conjure up the kind of mental imagery the creators desired.

Almost Famous
Amélie
American Beauty
Back to the Future
Batman (1989)
The Breakfast Club

Brokeback Mountain
The Devil Wears Prada
Empire of the Sun
Fight Club
