Top Sundance hits
January 28, 2009
While the 2009 Sundance Film Festival was a more subdued affair than usual — thank the economy for that, organizers and filmmakers groused — the annual event has a long history of helping obscure movies, directors, and actors find their way to commercial success.
Recently, Time reviewed the festival’s history in search of Sundance’s greatest hits.
Here’s the list that research produced:
– sex, lies and videotape (1989)
– Reservoir Dogs (1992)
– El Mariachi (1993)
– Clerks. (1994)
– Hoop Dreams (1994)
– The Usual Suspects (1995)
– The Blair Witch Project (1999)
– American Splendor (2003)
– Super Size Me (2004)
– Man on Wire (2008)
To read about all of these films, and to take in a slideshow, visit Time.
