American Idol winners

Kris Allen, a 23-year-old college student from Conway, Ark., is the latest winner of American Idol, outlasting Adam Lambert in what was believed to be a close vote.

What’s next for Allen? The history of Idol winners has been a mixed bag, with some going on to professional success while others faded from the scene.

Earlier this year, to celebrate the opening of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ “American Idol Experience” attraction in Orlando, Fla., the previous seven winners of the Fox reality show gathered together in the same location for the first time. Each was presented with a new Idol trophy shaped like the microphone used in the show’s introduction. For some, it was a chance to promote projects and reflect on the moment that jump-started their careers. For others, it was a reminder of how fleeting fame can be.
