Jordin Sparks: Fresh from singing the national anthem at the 2009 NBA All-Star Game in her hometown of Phoenix, the season six Idol winner is attempting to turn a winning personality and attitude into professional success. Early returns weren’t too encouraging, as her self-titled debut album produced the lowest first-week numbers of any of the show’s previous winners, with just 119,100 units sold. By comparison, here are the numbers for her predecessors: Kelly Clarkson, Thankful (2003): 297,400 Ruben Studdard, Soulful (2003): 416,600 Fantasia Barrino, Free Yourself (2004): 239,000 Carrie Underwood, Some Hearts (2005): 315,000 Taylor Hicks, Taylor Hicks (2006): 298,000
