Most expensive things in NYC
February 24, 2009
According to a recent survey, if you want to be “middle class” in New York City, it’s going to require an income in excess of six figures a year. That probably explains why a lot of working class people are being forced out of town and into the suburbs — or out of the area entirely.
But what if you had the cash to truly do it up right in the Big Apple? What would it cost to buy (or rent) the coolest apartment? Where would you stay if you were from out of town? Where would you eat or drink?
The New York Daily News wondered, too. After some research, the paper came up with its list of “New York City’s Most Expensive Things.”
Here’s a sampling:
Apartment (buy): $60 million and up.
Apartment (rent): $200,000/month
Hotel room: $34,000/night
Boat: $1.4 million
Perfume: $200,000/bottle
Shot of Cognac: $2,500
Baby stroller: $2,995
Lap dance: $1,000
Umbrella: $895
Dessert: $25,000
Small wonder New Jersey is starting to look a whole lot better to some folks. To find out why these items are so expensive, and to see the rest of the list, check out the Daily News.
