Best Street Food

Lunchtime in a big city doesn’t have to be a wait-for-a-table, sit-down affair, complete with a big tab and the accompanying tip. In some towns, diners can enjoy a truly movable feast.

These days, there’s more on the street than just hot dog carts and ice cream vendors. Some enterprising chefs provide gourmet offerings from all kinds of portable kitchens.

Forbes put together a list of some of the best.

Here goes:

Skillet, Seattle, Wash.: Kobe-style burger, Thai cured confit of duck

Chef Shack, Minneapolis, Minn.: Bison burgers, pulled pork nachos

Ferry Terminal Farmers’ Market, San Francisco, Calif.: Ethically raised chicken rotisserie, bread made with organic flour

Food Shark, Marfa, Texas: Mediterranean with a Texas twist

The Little Yellow Cart, Washington, D.C.: chicken and beef teriyaki and bulgogi, a barbecue dish with marinated beef and vegetables.

Red Hook Ball Fields, New York, N.Y.: tortillas stuffed with refried beans, cheese and mango slices

Read all about these, and catch a slideshow, at Forbes.
