America’s Prettiest Towns

Bill Sullivan
October 28, 2008

Which are the most attractive towns in America? It’s a subjective exercise, of course, but that kind of challenge never stopped the folks at Forbes Traveler from putting together a list.

To identify some of the nation’s prettiest venues, Forbes Traveler asked three travel writers, an urban designer, and the host of PBS’ “Restoration Stories” for their input. The judges were allowed to set their own criteria, since, after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

When the smoke cleared, the panel had produced a list of 20. Here are the first 10:

Rockport, Maine

Springdale, Utah

Burlington, Vermont

Bisbee, Arizona

Cape May, New Jersey

Annapolis, Maryland

Lake Placid, New York

Portsmouth, New Hampshire

New Hope, Pennsylvania

Flagstaff, Arizona

To find out what makes these towns special, and to see the rest of the list, check out Forbes Traveler.
