If you’re looking for a hideaway that’s not all that far from home, check out Outside magazine’s October 2008 cover story, “Great Escapes 2008.” Click on a state on the interactive map for a destination. For instance, North Dakota takes you to Theodore Roosevelt National Park (left) as one of the top spots for long walks, while King of the Hill in Georgia rates as one of the best remote cabin locations.
