What $700 Billion Is Worth
September 30, 2008
The figure being tossed around for the Wall Street bailout is a big number. Everyone agrees on that. It’s so big, in fact, that putting it in the kind of perspective a normal person can understand is a bit of a challenge.
LiveScience.com was up to the challenge. Here’s a list of some heavy financial hitters, and how much they spend or are worth compared to the bailout.
– NASA: $17.6 billion annual budget
– National Science Foundation: $6.06 billion annual budget
– Military budget for 2008: $418.4 billion
– Social Security annual budget: $608 billion
– Net Worth of Forbes 400: $1.57 trillion
On the bright side, you could load up on Alex Rodriguez. At his $28 million annual salary, $700 billion would buy you 25,000 A-Rods.
