In the Heights won Best Musical and August: Osage County claimed Best Play, but South Pacific cleaned up at the 2008 Tony Awards, taking home seven prizes, including Best Revival of a Musical. (The original South Pacific grabbed nine Tonys back in 1950.)

Patti Lupone’s win for Leading Actress in a Musical for Gypsy created an interesting bit of Broadway history. She became the third actress so-honored for playing Madam Rose, joining Angela Lansbury (1975) and Tyne Daly (1990).
