Best Nicolas Cage films

Lacking classic good looks, and seemingly miscast as an action hero, Nicolas Cage nevertheless has become one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. His Knowing — despite tepid reviews — was the top-grossing film of its opening week, bringing in nearly $25 million.

The 45-year-old actor has been appearing on the big screen since the early 1980s, including a small part in the cult favorite Fast Times at Ridgemont High. His 1995 performance as a doomed alcoholic in Leaving Las Vegas earned him an Oscar for Best Actor, and he received a second nomination for his work in 2002’s Adaptation.

While Cage has been accused of going for the paycheck rather than selecting interesting roles in recent years, he still offers an impressive body of work. Here’s our take on which of his films rank as best.
