Tracking down lists of famous lovers is not nearly as easy as you’d think it would be. Biography comes to the rescue with this clever Timeline of Love spotlighting famous couples through the ages. But we were puzzled by the legendary lovers who did not make the list: Julius Caesar and Cleopatra (why just her romance with Antony?), Heloise and Abelard, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Paul and Linda McCartney, and of course Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. But you’ll be relieved to know the timeline includes John and Yoko and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith (seriously?!).

Here are some of the famous lovers; for more, see the Timeline of Love:

Nefertiti and Amenhotep IV (1349-1346 B.C.)

Antony and Cleopatra (41-30 B.C.)

Abigail and John Adams (1762-1818)

Napoleon and Josephine (1795-1810)

Annie Oakley and Frank Butler (1881-1926)

Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera (1928-1954; pictured))

Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow (1930-1934)

Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall (1943-1957)

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward (1958-present)

John Lennon and Yoko Ono (1968-1980)
