U.S. Olympic Women’s Soccer Team
August 6, 2008
The women’s soccer team slated for Olympic competition in Beijing in August had a shock to overcome when their leading scorer, Abby Wambach, broke her leg during a game against Brazil in mid-July. Her replacement is Lauren Cheney, a junior at UCLA. That gives the 18-member U.S. team three players who are in college. Lindsay Tarpley, pictured, warms up during practice in Beijing in preparation for the Olympic games. The U.S. women’s soccer coach is Pia Sundhage.
