U.S. Olympic Men’s Swimming Team

Familiar faces will be in the pool at the men’s Olympic swimming competition in Beijing. Michael Phelps, 23, the record-breaking Olympic medal winner in 2004 (eight medals, six gold) and the holder of four individual world records, won five events in the Olympic swim trials in early July in Omaha, Neb., according to the U.S.A Swimming Web site.

He edged out teammate Ian Crocker in the 100m butterfly in 50.89. Both men have been the world’s fastest swimmers in the event since 2003’s World Championships in Barcelona. This will be Crocker’s third time at the Olympic games, as it will for Phelps (pictured).

In the trials, Phelps also won the 400m IM, 200m free, 200m fly and 200m IM.

Garrett Weber-Gale also broke two American records at the trials: He swam the 50m free in 21.47, and also took the 100m free. His time for the 50m made him the fourth fastest swimmer of all time in that event.
