States Kerry won in 2004
October 28, 2008
If Democrats are going to reclaim the White House in 2008, they’ll have to improve considerably on their showing in the 2004 election. Four years ago, George W. Bush earned a second term by winning 31 states, dominating the South and the center of the country.
Democratic nominee John Kerry fared well on the coasts and in the northeast, but winning 19 states and the District of Columbia produced just 252 electoral votes, 18 short of the number required to be declared the winner.
Here are the states that went “blue” in ‘04:
California
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii
Illinois
Maine
Maryland
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
New Hampshire
New Jersey
New York
Oregon
Pennsylvania
Rhode Island
Vermont
Washington
Wisconsin
