Stars who left hit shows

When a TV series enjoys some success, its stars understandably come in for much of the credit. Unfortunately, some get a little carried away with just how important they are in the grand scheme of things.

For every George Clooney (E.R.) or John Travolta (Welcome Back, Kotter) who moved seamlessly from TV to the big screen, there is a David Caruso or 10. In fact, the roll call of stars who erred in leaving hit vehicles is a long one.

GetBack.com came up with a list of actors and actresses who wish they could have a do-over on some dubious career moves.

Here goes, with the performer and the series he or she abandoned:

David Caruso, NYPD Blue

Delta Burke, Designing Women

Courtney Thorne-Smith: Ally McBeal

Chevy Chase, Saturday Night Live

Farrah Fawcett, Charlie’s Angels

Sherry Stringfield, E.R.

Wayne Rogers, M*A*S*H

Shelley Long, Cheers

Shannen Doherty, Beverly Hills, 90210

Gabe Kaplan, Welcome Back, Kotter
